We met while Jeri was on a mission trip to Canada and the rest is history as they say. A boy from Beamsville (Ontario) and a girl from Cheyenne. We were married May 20, 2000 we have enjoyed the many joys of marriage. One of our greatest joys came July 1, 2005 with the birth of our daughter Hannah. For us the story continues with a mission. Starting in 2006 we will serve as missionaries in Alotau, Papua New Guinea.

Ants

The Ants Go Marching One By One

Written Oct 25, 2007

(I’m posting two posts at the same time. Since we aren’t able to get on the internet often, I didn’t have a chance to post my last writing before this one. Be sure to read the former post too!)

Okay, I was here in Alotau during rainy season last year, but I don’t remember the ants being quite so bad. Seriously, I have never seen so many ants in a house before!!! Before we started spraying surface spray there were just streams of ants everywhere – especially in the kitchen. We also have gobs of ants in our clothes basket. I guess they love smelly stuff too! So, that was my first job nearly every morning: wiping off the ants from the kitchen cabinets so I could make some breakfast. (I wonder how many ants we’ve already eaten.) I’m hoping the ants start to stay outside more when it stops raining so much.

Speaking of rain, we have not had rain for 4 days in a row. You may say, “That’s a good thing, right?” Well, it is – if you don’t want ants in your kitchen. But if we would like to have a shower, wash dishes, or drink a cup of water, we need rain. Our house is not connected to the town water supply yet, so we rely heavily on rain to fill our huge green water tank outside. So far we haven’t run out. But then again, it’s been raining nearly every day since we’ve been back. Dry season is upon us, supposedly, which means no rain and HOT weather. We are thinking that we could probably go a couple of weeks without rain and survive off the tank. So, every couple of weeks, feel free to say a prayer asking for a big rain in Alotau, PNG. The village people would appreciate having some rain in the rivers too!
